Senior Accountant
The Greater Hartford Transit District (GHTD) located in Hartford, Connecticut, is seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of Senior Accountant. The successful candidate will serve under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer and will be responsible for supporting the accounting and financial functions including payroll, accounts payable and receivable.
This position will also be responsible for delivering high quality accounting and analytical support, ensuring the accuracy of the District’s accounting/financial records and meeting the timely close for month-end, quarter-end, and year-end. This position works closely with the Chief Financial Officer, finance department staff, and other staff of the District, and will directly interface with customers, vendors, and bank representatives, among other duties.
The minimum qualifications for this position include a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field with five+ years accounting work experience. Experience working with municipal and/or governmental accounting systems is preferred but not required. The successful candidate will have excellent computer skills, strong proficiency in Microsoft programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Knowledge of MAS90 is also preferred but not required.
The successful candidate must have proven ability to manage tasks accurately and on schedule. To perform the job successfully, the individual must demonstrate the problem-solving skills, analytical and technical abilities, customer service, leadership and teamwork abilities, and flexibility. Strong oral and written communication skills, attention to details, and strong work ethics are necessary. The individual should be highly organized and thorough with an ability to multitask and work independently, develop a thorough understanding of GAAP accounting rules, and apply knowledge of GAAP accounting rules to various tasks.
